Rising Risk
While Homicide remains the most frequent risk, accounting for 43 incidents between Jan 1 and Jul 1, 2026, the data shows a concerning rise in Terrorism. Terrorism incidents increased from an unspecified number in 2025 to 12 in the current period, highlighting a growing threat that requires heightened vigilance.
Severity Level
The lethality rate for incidents in Plateau State between Jan 1 and Jul 1, 2026, is notably high. With 269 fatalities recorded against 100 incidents, the average number of deaths per incident is approximately 2.69. This suggests that when incidents occur, they are often exceptionally deadly.
Future Outlook
Given the substantial year-on-year increases in incidents, fatalities, and victims, the security outlook for Plateau State remains precarious. The current trajectory suggests a continued high level of threat, particularly from violent criminal activities and potentially escalating terrorism, demanding robust security responses.

Gunmen storm mining site, gun down three workers in Plateau
Bokkos
Unidentified gunmen on Tuesday attacked a mining site in Nyango, Gyel District, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing three and injuring two others. The attack reportedly took place at about 11:50 a.m. when the assailants invaded the mining site and opened fire on workers. Reacting to the incident, the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, BYM, expressed concern over the recurring insecurity in Gyel and surrounding communities. BYM, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, said the latest attack was not the first violent incident recorded in the area. According to the group, residents of Gyel and neighbouring communities in Bassa Local Government Area had repeatedly raised concerns over attacks and insecurity allegedly perpetrated by armed elements operating around the Gyero and Rafin Buna axis.
